Higbee, The Profession and Practice of Learning Assistance and Developmental Education: Essays in Memory of Dr. Martha Maxwell can be used for scholarly research, professional development enhancement, course instructional material, and applications to practice. The book is first of its kind, honoring Martha Maxwell's vision and featuring chapters from the CLADEA Fellows; it is organized into sections by historical context, current issues, and best practices.

~~ANNOUNCEMENT~~CLADEA encourages professional development and research in the field. In addition to creating how-to-do-research sessions at the conferences of member organizations, the Council now provides other research support. A series of podcasts are offered; TRPP (Dr. Martha Casazza and Dr. Sharon Silverman) provides content for the podcasts, and Innovative Educators (Valerie Kisiel and Kristen Seldon) produces the podcasts, at no charge to CLADEA or its member organizations.

In our most recent podcast, TRPP interviewed Dr. Eric Paulson. Professor, Graduate Program in Developmental Education, College of Education, Texas State University. TRPP interviewed Dr. Paulson about his current research projects focusing on literacy. http://www.screencast.com/t/XhGRu4GZ6QMB

Also join Dr. Casazza, Dr. Silverman and Dr. Paulson for an interactive concurrent session at the upcoming NADE conference, Saturday, March 6 at 8:00 am. The discussion is based on the CLADEA’s podcast featuring Dr. Paulson's interview. It is strongly recommended that attendees view the podcast prior to participation.

~~ANNOUNCEMENT~~CLADEA is pleased to present a White Paper titled Meaningful Access and Support: The Path to College Completion authored by Dr. Martha E. Casazza and Dr. Sharon L. Silverman. The paper is a call to action for U.S. colleges and universities and higher education policymakers to provide meaningful access and academic support for all students. Meaningful access and academic support are imperative to increase graduation rates, develop an educated workforce, strengthen the economy, and compete globally. This paper lays out five imperatives to forge a path toward increased college completion, explores policies that restrict or inhibit access and academic support, describes features of successful academic support programs, and responds to recent developmental education research.

In the first of the podcast series, TRPP interviewed Dr. Sung-Woo Cho of the Community College Research Center (CCRC), Teachers College, Columbia University. TRPP interviewed Dr. Cho about his current research topics, methodologies, and projected outcomes. Innovative Educators provided all technical production resources to produce the podcast.

MISSION: Foster mutual support among national and international organizations dedicated to postsecondary learning assistance or developmental education.
